90% Silver Barber Dimes, Quarters, Halves - Barber coins were the primary circulating coinage from before the turn of the century through the Great Depression, and their composition is 90 percent Silver. Mintage of the Barber dime, quarter-dollar and half-dollar coins began in 1892. The dimes and quarters were produced through 1916, while the half-dollar was produced through 1915. Since most of these coins were in heavy circulation for 20 years or longer, they are not such a common find these days.

      Charles E. Barber, the U.S. Mint's chief engraver at the time, is responsible for the design on these coins. Barber created the design after several failed attempts by the Mint to select new designs from selected artists and from public submissions. Barber's design features a right-facing Liberty head with a cap and wreath for the obverse of the coins, and a heraldic eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch on the quarter and half-dollar. The reverse of the dime features a ring of U.S. agricultural products.
