1864 (Confederate Currency)

APMEX offers a fine selection of 1864 Confederate Currency.

During the Civil War, the Confederate states attempted to solve their vast financial problems by issuing their own paper money. Issued into circulation in 1861, Confederate notes held little monetary value due to lack of gold and silver reserves by the Confederacy and their setbacks on the battlefield. Though not official legal tender, Southerners traded these notes as a medium of exchange.

Running through 1864, Confederate notes were printed in denominations of $.50, $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, $500 and $1000.

Today, Confederate notes are valuable collectibles and an important part of United States history. They make a perfect addition to any coin or currency collection. All of our currency notes are guaranteed authentic and have been carefully inspected and graded by a professional numismatist.
