Medieval coinage has had a time span of over 1,000 years. It started with the fall of the Roman Empire in the West, mid 5th century AD, to the beginning of machine-made coins in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Generally, Medieval Coins--also called "Hammered Coins"--are hand struck on thin silver planchets. They cover the coinage of Anglo Saxon England, Feudal France, the Holy Roman Empire and the Crusades, to name a few. These coins may appear crude and hard to read, but they are the coins of castles and knights in shining armor.
