Early US Political Medalets

APMEX offers a fine selection of Early US Political Medalets.

Beginning with the election of William Henry Harrison as our 9th President in 1840, the custom of making small medals (medalets) of brass, copper, bronze, silver and other metals became the fade and was very popular among voters of the day. Most of these were holed after minting, so that they could be worn on clothing by supporters of the various candidates. Prior to 1840, virtually all political medals are scarce and somewhat valuable. During the 1840 to 1896 period, hundreds of different medalets for all of the candidates were minted. During 1896, the celluloid button was invented and political medalets were all but forgotten as a political badge. From George Washington Inaugural Buttons to Abraham Lincoln medalets to the last medalets issued for William McKinley's election in 1896, political medalets provide a fascinating glimpse into the annals of American political history!

For your convenience, all political medalets are listed in chronological order.
