Mid-Day Gold & Silver Market Report – 2/4/2011

At 12PM (CT) the APMEX precious metal spot prices were:

  • Gold – $1,348.40
  • Silver – $28.99
  • Platinum – $1846.40
  • Palladium – $818.50

COMMENTARY: The precious metals market is mixed today, with gold and palladium slightly down, and silver and platinum slightly up. Gold is shying away from a two-week high, which was hit yesterday. As mentioned this morning, the jobs report that was released showed an improved unemployment number, but a very disappointing number of new jobs created. With all of the unrest in Tunisia and Egypt, the fear all along has been that this will spread to other countries in that area. It looks like Sudan is the latest, however their recent protest was short-lived. Senator John McCain is now saying that the leader of Belarus will suffer the same fate as leaders like Mubarak’s in Egypt.

Gold spot price is down $5.10 on the day.  Silver spot price is up 20 cents.  Platinum spot price is up $2.30.  Palladium spot price is down $4.00.
