Q.  Can I transfer money from an existing IRA account to fund my precious metals IRA without incurring any tax penalties?

A.   If you have an existing IRA or 401K, the easiest way to set up a new precious metals IRA is by Direct Rollover. With a Direct Rollover, you transfer the amount you want to spend into a new IRA and there are no tax penalties. Q. Can I transfer funds out of my 401K plan?

A.  Yes, if your 401K is from a past employer. If your 401K is with your current employer, you will not be able to transfer funds.


Q.  What types of IRAs are eligible to rollover?

A.   There are many different types of IRAs besides the standard IRA, and any of these can have a Direct Rollover.


Q.  Can a person have more than one IRA?

A.  Yes, there is no problem with having more than one IRA. However, please keep in mind that the maximum deferred annual contribution—currently $4,000 for an individual—is not applied to each IRA. The $4,000 is the maximum total for the year. You may want to consult your Tax Advisor for specific details as these rules may change from time to time.

A.   Yes, you can open a new IRA with cash. If you choose to do this, please note that the tax benefits may only be on the first $4,000 depending on your income.


Q. Does APMEX have a minimum dollar amount for an IRA purchase?

A. Yes, the minimum amount for an IRA purchase from APMEX is $4,000.

Q. Is there a minimum dollar amount when I wish to sell my IRA-held metals back to APMEX?

A. Yes. We require that you sell no less than $4,000. We will consider exceptions on a case by case basis.
