1862 Civil War Medal - Battle of the Monitor & Merrimac - Unique
 
Here is a really rare item. It is a flat, oval-shaped, silver disk measuring 29mm in diameter. This was likely a "love token" or a souvenir for someone who either served on the CSS ship the Merrimac, or who had a loved one who did. The Battle of the Ironclads took place in 1862 in Hampton Roads, VA, between the USS Monitor and the CSS ship the Merrimac. This epic battle proved that ironclad ships were the future of naval warfare. This medal may likely be unique.
