1863 Civil War Token & McClellan Presidential CampaignToken

Scarce political medalet promoting the 1864 candidacy of General George McClellan. General Georeg McClellan was Lincoln's top general in 1861, after the retirement of General Winfield Scott. McClellan had limited success during the early years of the war and he developed a strong dislike for President Lincoln. The final insult came for McClellan when Lincoln appointed Grant as General of the Armies and essentially unseated McClellan. He openly announced his upcoming candidacy for President as a Democrat to run against the Republican Lincoln in the 1864 election. He supported an immediate cessation of hostilities between the North and South and a negotiated settlement with the South. Lincoln easily won reelection over McClellan, even though the Union troops overwhelmingly supported McClellan. Great obverse depiction of a bust of McClellan and the reverse has the text "ARMY & NAVY." A great patriotic Civil War Token and a Political Medalet.
