1840 Martin Van Buren Political Campaign Medalet

Fairly scarce political medalet from Martin Van Buren's presidential campaign of 1840. Whig William Henry Harrison waged a vigorous political campaign against Democratic Incumbent President Martin Van Buren. This medalet depicts a bust of Van Buren facing left, with "MARTIN VAN BUREN - BORN DEC. 5. 1782." The reverse depicts a scale, with the Whig's portion of the scale up high and the Democrat's portion of the scale down low. The legend appears, "WEIGHED IN THE BALANCE & FOUND WANTING - 1840". It is holed for suspension as most were. It measures 24mm in diameter and is made of brass. It is listed as DeWitt #MVB 1840-9. This medalet is an actual souvenir from that Presidential political campaign 168 years ago! Van Buren items are VERY SCARCE!
