1921 Alabama Centennial Commemorative MS-64 PCGS Plain Variety!

The 1921 Alabama Centennial commemorative half dollar was issued to honor the centennial of Alabama's admission to the Union. The coin was designed by Laura Gardin Fraser. The obverse depicts the conjoined busts of William Bibb, first Governor or Alabama, and T. E. Kilby, then-Governor during the Centennial. This was the first instance of using a living person's portrait on a United States coin. There are also 22 stars on the obverse indicating that Alabama was the 22nd state. The reverse depicts an eagle on a shield. It was issued in both the "Plain" and "2x2" varieties, where the "2x2" is marked in the field. This is the "Plain" variety, with a mintage of 49,038 pieces. This brilliant MS-64 example is a scarce coin. Great PCGS graded coin.
