SPANISH 8 REALE COIN FROM THE WRECK OF THE EL CAZADOR
On January 11, 1784 the El Cazador, a Spanish Brig of War, sailed from Veracruz, Mexico for the port of New Orleans. Along the way the ship, loaded with silver 8 reales, and crew disappered without a trace.
On August 2, 1993, 50 miles off shore of Louisiana a fishing trawler named MISTAKE snagged some debris on the ocean floor only to discover coins amoung the things cought in its net. At a depth of 300 feet the crew had found the resting place of the lost El Cazador.
These silver 8 reales, the size of a U.S. silver dollar have the bust of Charles III king of Spain on the obverse and the crowned arms of Spain on the reverse. All are dated on or before 1784 and are in very good condition for their 209 years under sea. All have full dates, readable legend and clear portrait of King and Arms.
Since we may have more than one of these coin(s) in stock, you should use this stock photograph as an indicator of the quality of the coin(s) you will receive.
