Letitia Tyler became the first wife of a president to die while her husband was still in Office.

The Letitia Tyler First Spouse Gold Coin’s obverse (heads) side depicts a portrait of her designed and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill. The reverse, designed by Susan Gamble and sculpted by Norm Nemeth, depicts Mrs. Tyler and her two oldest children behind their Cedar Grove Plantation, where she and John were married in 1813.
