Hungary issued this Gold coin in 1968 to commemorate the sesqui-centennial of the birth of Ignaz Semmelweis. As a young doctor, Semmelweis advanced the use of antiseptics to cut down on mortality rates in Vienna's hospitals.

A right-facing likeness of Semmelweis is on the obverse, and the Hungarian coat of arms appears above the denomination and date on the reverse. This coin contains 2.4335 troy oz of Gold. NGC has certified this coin as a Proof 63 Ultra Cameo. KM#588.
