In 1968, Hungary issued this Gold coin to commemorate the sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) of the birth of Ignaz Semmelweis. As a young doctor, Semmelweis advanced the use of antiseptics to cut down on mortality rates in Vienna hospitals. The obverse of this Gold coin features a profile of Semmelweis. The Hungarian coat of arms, along with the denomination and date, appear of the reverse. Each Gold coin contains 1.2168 troy oz Gold. NGC has graded this Gold coin as a Proof 63 Ultra Cameo. Listed in Krause as KM#587.
