The reverse side of this .86 oz .9999-fine Silver coin from the Royal Canadian Mint features a magpie, China's bird of happiness, flying above lotus flowers with a maple leaf hologram in the center.

Happiness is one of China’s great blessings, symbolized by numerous animals and plants. One of its most potent representatives is the magpie (xi que). Its name translates directly as “the bird of happiness.” Two magpies are often depicted together at weddings to express a wish for “double happiness.” The lotus flower is another visual and auditory symbol for happiness. The pronunciation of its name (lian) sounds identical to the word “continuous.” Hence, the use of lotus flowers in the design represents prolonged happiness, luck and success.

The obverse shows Susanna Blunt's design of Queen Elizabeth II of England. Attractively housed in the original box of issue with a numbered certificate of authenticity from the Royal Canadian Mint.
