You will love this unusual Brilliant Uncirculated Silver sundial coin. Archeological discoveries show that sundials have been used in Babylon since around 3,500 B.C. The principle of the Sundial was simple: it involved placing a stick into the ground and allowing the movement of the sun’s shadow to reflect the time from sunrise to sunset. In Egypt, an obelisk shadow was used to show the time elapsed during a sunny day.

Sundials were also widely utilized by the Greeks and Romans and remained in use until the 18th century. The sundial was available in several different forms including table sundials or the common pocket sundial. Such sundials were manufactured with a compass (to verify the direction of south) so as to ensure the accuracy of the setting. Sundials on walls have come to be seen as famous European art works and are still functioning today, but not changeable to summertime.

The magnetic compass was discovered by the Chinese around 200 B.C. This discovery furthered the use and accuracy of the compass. In the 13th century, Oriental trading brought the compass to Europe and its use in sailing spread.

This unique Silver coin comes in a beautiful wooden box with a certificate of authenticity. To ensure accurate functioning of this sensitive item, please refrain from using it near an iron mass to prevent interference with a stronger magnetic force.
