Mintage of 1,500 coins!
This is the first coin of a new series featuring great French ships. Every year for five years, this series will pay tribute to a sailing ship, a warship and an ocean liner. This .920 fine .25 oz Gold Proof coin depicts The Hermione.

She became famous when Gen. Lafayette ferried her to the United States in 1780 to join the American side in the American Revolutionary War. A replica is under construction and should be launched in 2012 to re-enact this historical journey.

The Hermione is represented on the obverse, with wind in all her sails, upon a stormy sea. The ship's helm and jibs are clearly visible. The reverse is a composition common to all five of the sailing ship coins. The Hermione's figurehead of a lion holding a coat of arms is depicted on the front sail. Each of these beautiful Gold coins comes in a box and with a certificate of authenticity.
