This Silver Dollar commemorates the proposal to erect a Capitol Visitor Center in Washington D.C., at the time a concept. The obverse shows the original Capitol with the date 1800, and a much smaller current Capitol with the date 2001. This design is a variation on the same theme as used on the half dollar.

The reverse presents a heraldic eagle reminiscent of the same artist's reverse design for the 1986 Silver Eagle bullion coin. In the present incarnation, the national bird wears a ribbon lettered U.S. Capital Visitor Center. It is graded Proof-70 Deep Cameo by PCGS.
