This is the second year of the series which pays tribute to characters of French literature. This year the adventurers are in the spotlight. The second coin this year depicts d'Artagnan.
d'Artagnan was one of the musketeers under the reign of King Louis XIII.
The Three Musketeers
is a novel by Alexandre Dumas which recounts the adventures of d'Artagnan.
The obverse of this Gold coin presents d'Artagnan in all the splendor of his period costume. In the background, the three musketeers declare their famous motto "Un pour tous, tous pour un" ("all for one, one for all"). The reverse has a portrait of Alexandre Dumas. Included is the quote from the play:
"Le jeune Mousquetaire etait en excellente disposition pour trepasser heroiquement".
