Celebrate the Year of the Rooster With APMEX
The Chinese New Year, also called the Lunar New Year, marks the first day of the new year in the Chinese calendar. The Chinese Lunar Calendar differs from the Gregorian calendar, and though business in China is generally conducted according to the Gregorian calendar used by most of the world, Chinese celebrations are still celebrated according to their traditional calendar, which dates back to 2637 BCE.
The Chinese Zodiac, known as Sheng Xiao, is based on a 12-year cycle calculated according to the Chinese lunar calendar and relates to different animal signs. These signs are the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. One belief about this practice is that Buddha promised gifts to all animals that would pay him homage. Only 12 animals came to honor Buddha, so he gave each of them one year to call their own on the Chinese Zodiac. People born during a given animal's years are said to bear distinctive characteristics of that animal.
Beginning on January 28, the Chinese Zodiac begins the new Year of the Rooster. Because of their traditional duty of waking farmers, roosters are thought to be faithful and punctual. Those born in the Year of the Rooster are believed to share these qualities, as well as being warm-hearted and of quick intellect. While there is a bit of overlap at the very beginning of each year, Years of the Rooster include 2017, 2005, 1993,1981, 1969, 1957 and so on, every 12 years.
APMEX offers a wide variety of Precious Metals products commemorating the Year of the Rooster. These make a thoughtful gift for anyone born in the Year of the Rooster as well as a fun and fascinating way to mark the growth of one’s Precious Metal collection or investment portfolio.
