The History of the 1 oz Gold American Eagle

The 1 oz Gold American Eagle was first issued by the U.S. Mint in 1986, but it has a colorful history that stretches back much farther. The original Gold Eagle coin was a $10 Gold coin authorized by the Coinage Act of 1792, and “eagle” became a face value base unit for Gold coins, with other denominations including the Double Eagle and Half Eagle. The last Double Eagle design, the $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold coin, is often regarded as the most beautiful coin design in history. The modern Gold Eagle coins for sale are fashioned after this 1907 Gold coin, which was in circulation until 1933.

Why invest in 1 oz Gold American Eagle coins?

The 1 oz Gold American Eagle has a legal tender face value of $50, meaning its weight and quality are guaranteed by the U.S. government, making it considered a great investment by many. One of many Lady Liberty Gold coins produced by the U.S. Mint, this modern Gold coin is purchased by investors because the Gold value far exceeds the face value. The Gold Eagle coin, because of its high quality, can be placed in a Precious Metals IRA. Buying these Gold coins for sale is seen by many investors as an easy way to add Precious Metals to your portfolio.

The beauty of 1 oz Gold American Eagle coins has been acclaimed for more than a century.

The 1 oz Gold American Eagle design is based on the famous Saint-Gaudens Lady Liberty design that appeared on the final Gold Double Eagle design. Replacing the Liberty Gold coin in 1907, the Saint-Gaudens Gold coin was born out of President Theodore Roosevelt’s desire for U.S. Gold coins to be a work of art. The 1907 Gold Double Eagle coin is considered one of the most beautiful of American coins, and the present-day American Eagle receives the same sort of acclaim. Modern American Eagle coins for sale are made for investors, but collectors enjoy their beauty.

First purcahse RU Eagle- now addicted!!

Newby here so I opted for the RU 1oz. Eagle. Absolutely beautiful, shiny and untouched, all wrapped in amazing customer service! As a new buyer, looking to diversify sending a wire to some location in Oklahoma (not that there is ANYTHING wrong with Oklahoma ;) for this amount of $$$$ without knowing, seeing or touching what you are buying is a bit of a knee-shaky venture. The communication every step of the way and prompt delivery, great quality with immaculate packaging certainly put me at ease and very willing do this again- and I will. I received a 1999 and don't know if this is good or bad as I am no numismatist, but may become one soon. Thank you! PS- Great educational content and videos for beginners on your site! Q- How do I find out about High vs. Low mintage?

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Mint Condition
  • Recognized Brand

Nice coins

These are great coins to have, made in USA recognized by everybody. They are pretty quoins but they are not as shiny or beautifully done as the Buffalo 1 ounce pure gold coins. With this in mind for something to look at for its beauty these coins are not the choice. But they are known by everybody so it will be very easy to sell these or use them in an emergency

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Mint Condition
  • Recognized Brand

Cons

  • Unattractive Design

The value of a Gold Eagle coin involves more than the beauty of its design or the year of its minting.

The 1 oz Gold American Eagle is made chiefly for investors, although the U.S. Mint offers proof and burnished coins made with special processes to enhance their beauty for collectors. A Gold Eagle coin could refer to a variety of different Gold coins, including a modern Gold bullion coin and pre-1933 Gold Eagle coins. The Capped Bust Gold coin was the earliest Gold Eagle coin, starting in 1795, but it was produced in such low numbers that they are seen as purely high-end collector items. Coins for sale can be bought for their Precious Metal value or their collectibility value, and it is important to know what you are getting before paying the premium over the Gold spot price.
