The rendering of the Finnish miner Arne Harjaala was done by master engraver Stan Pearson of Kansas City, while the lettering and the image of the shaft-house were engraved by Gary Carlisle of Oklahoma City.

This coin, first minted in pure copper in 2006, is historically significant in the bullion trade as it was the first ever use of troy ounces as the weight designation of copper bullion. The use of the troy ounce in denominating the weight of copper is a bit unusual, as troy ounces are generally used only with reference to precious metals like Gold, Silver and Platinum.
