Buying from Apmex is always a positive experience. I realize there might be other places that are slightly cheaper. Buying here gives me assurance that the product is really what it says it is.

2 out of 3 rolls were OK

By  Gary K

  • Easy to Sell
  • Collectible (lower mintage)

  • Coin Sorter Damage
  • Poor Condition

When I buy from here, I specifically write up notes letting the pickers know I plan on reselling them, and I asjk them to give me the pick of the litter if at all possible. I ordered 3 rolls, or 60 Kennedy half dollars total. I managed to get 40 that were acceptable. What I consider acceptable is a coin that would be graded as BU, from MS60 to 63 or so. I am not overall picky, but these will be presented to potential customers, and I need them to look half decent. I contacted customer service and told them I wanted to return one of the three rolls. This roll I am returning is pretty poor quality, and contains coins from all 3 rolls. About 10 coins exhibit extreme damage, with most of those 10 looking like they got stuck in a coin counting machine. The circular marks are there, and there is severe damage to the devices (letters and numbers) near the rim. Two additional coins were stained near the rim. It looks like some one may have been eating and had some ketchup / BBQ or other red sauce on their hands or gloves and it was dabbed on several places on these two coins. I am not implying that this business did that, I am just telling you what I see under magnification. The rest of the coins that I am returning were just beat to heck and back. I mean, some actually have very deep crevices on the face or looked like some one put a coin face down on concrete, stepped on it, and slid it forward. That description might be a bit drastic, but the coin appearance looked plain UGLY. I realize that these are supposed to be "BU", meaning if sent in to a grading company, they should be able to come back with a grade of MS60 to 63. For the roll I am returning, they more than likely would not come back as that, and probably would receive a "Details" grade due to the damage on the coin, thus rendered "ungradable". I am not overly picky, but when it comes to expectations of what I am purchasing, I expect to get what I am paying for. I will bend alittle on a few coins, but if I get one-third of the purchase thats all jacked up, the fed-up meter gets pegged. As for the other two rolls, those were acceptable when it comes to coins that may be sent in to be graded, or to a potential buyer who may look at these under a loupe/ magnifyimg glass or microscope. Again, I understand I am paying for MS 60 to 63 product and not MS66, and for the other two rolls I am keeping, these should not be an issue for people to purchase. I asked for a replacement roll. The company will get the exact "bad" coins back that I received from them, and I hope to close the issue and move on with a better quality product/roll.

Good way to have a backup for economic calamities as these are US legal tender and are mint state coins in 90% silver.

  • Easy to Sell

  • Poor Condition

Initial shipment was not as discribed - I purchased 10 rolls had to exchange 5 - condition was poor - the replacements were fantastic. I would recommend checking all of the rolls to make sure the coins are as discribed.

I buy these coins for greater value over time than bullion. They do not fluctuate as much bullion, will always have the coin value along with the precious metal value (there not making them anymore) and are readily recognizable for easy sell or trade.
