The history of the 1 oz Palladium Bar

The history of 1 oz Palladium bars starts with the discovery of Palladium in the early 1800s by William Hyde Wollaston, an English chemist. Initially Palladium wasn’t accepted as a Precious Metal, and was thought of as an alloy of Platinum, so Wollaston was forced to disclose the details of his research. Today, Palladium is recognized as a Precious Metal, and it is used to fabricate items ranging from surgical instruments to Palladium bullion. Though Palladium bar production takes up part of the market for Palladium, over half of the yearly Palladium supply is used to manufacture catalytic converters for cars.

Why invest in 1 oz Palladium bars?

Many invest in Palladium bars in order to diversify their Precious Metals investment portfolio, or to add to their Precious Metals IRA. Because Palladium bullion is a less common Precious Metals investment, buying Palladium in a sealed protective assay package helps to ensure you get the best price when you choose to liquidate your investment. Each PAMP Suisse Palladium bar is authenticated by an assayer for fineness and weight. In addition to these Palladium bars, check out the full inventory of Palladium bars available at APMEX.

Can I add 1 oz Palladium bars to my Precious Metals IRA?

PAMP Suisse 1 oz Palladium bars in sealed protective assay packages are approved for use with Precious Metals IRAs. Like Gold and Silver, Palladium bullion can add stability to your retirement portfolio because its relative purchasing power is typically stable even when the economy dips. Before buying Palladium bars, you must choose a custodian for your Precious Metals IRA if you don’t already have one. Adding Palladium to add to your retirement portfolio, can help round out your investment strategy.

great bar, poor assay packaging

The bars are beautiful and a great design. APMEX shipped quickly and packing was ok (6 bars loose in a plastic bag then further protected by a bubble envelope and foam padding around it). However, for all 6 bars I received, the outer plastic wrap of the assay packaging is separating from the assay card all around the bar, creating some unsightly bubbles around the bar. You can try to press the plastic wrap back against the blue card to squeeze those bubbles out, but they come back quickly. PAMP is popular but I think I'll stick with brands that use hard plastic blisters from now on. I am worried about how the PAMP assay packaging might look 20 years from now if it is already bubbling up...

Pros

  • Attractive Design

Cons

  • Hard to Sell

Nice as diversification and novelty

I bought this more as a novelty and diversification item for my precious metal collection. This bar looks really nice and stores well, very similar to the platinum bar.

Ordered on a Sunday. Got the package on a Wednesday. That's good turnaround time. Sealed in plastic, which is typical, but not the thick hard plastic issued by ScotiaBank, but typical of a Credit Suisse assay. Nice item. No reason to shop anywhere else.

The outer blue shell is made of a nice, sturdy plastic and is exactly the size of a credit card. Unlike a credit card, however, this bar stores real Wealth. Plus, this product just looks nice. Palladium is a fairly unusual investment, so having the metal embedded in a well-marked certificate like this is probably the best way to ensure its eventual resale value.

Before buying 1 oz Palladium bars, know more than the Palladium price.

When you invest in 1 oz Palladium bars, it is a good idea to know how supply and demand affect the price of Palladium. Palladium bullion bars and other Palladium products are produced from a finite supply of Palladium, most of which is found in Russia and South America. The price of Palladium can be affected by local and international politics in these areas. Other factors affect the Palladium price as well, such as market speculation and industrial demand, so the best way to keep track of the current market price for Palladium is to review APMEX’s chart for the Palladium spot price and to watch for important news events that can affect the price of Palladium.
