The history of the Gold Liberty Eagle

$10 Gold Liberty Eagle coins were designed by Christian Gobrecht, the Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint from 1840 until 1844. Along with these U.S. Mint Gold coins, he is known for designing the “Seated Liberty” series of coins that are highly recognized all over the world. The Gold Liberty Eagle designer was also responsible for the Gobrecht dollar and the Flying Eagle cent. His Gold coins also inspired the design of the Trade Dollar, a dollar coin minted to compete with other large Silver trade coins.

Why invest in $10 Gold Liberty Eagle coins?

$10 Gold Liberty Eagle coins are ideal for those who treasure Gold coins for their historical and numismatic value, but also appreciate a good investment. The Gold Liberty Eagle has a low premium over the Gold spot price compared with other collectible vintage Gold coins. Each one of these U.S. Mint Gold coins contains .4838 oz of Gold. Many of these Gold coins were melted down after Executive Order 6102 in 1933 which criminalized holding monetary Gold.

Buy Gold coins as an investment, along with Gold bars and rounds.

$10 Gold Liberty Eagle coins have numismatic value because of their age, historical significance and rarity. Does this mean that the Gold Liberty Eagle should not be considered if you are primarily looking at Gold as an investment? Not necessarily. These U.S. Mint Gold coins do have a slightly elevated price compared with Gold bars, due to their numismatic value – but not enough that it should prohibit you from buying them. These Gold coins give you the satisfaction of holding Gold that has history and beauty behind it. And with their Gold content, slight wear and lower premium over the Gold spot price compared with other vintage Gold coins, they can still be a good investment.

A good buy with a fair premium

I received a 1882 in XF condition, it's an attractive design that commands respect. I'm permanently disabled & it took me a long time to save & eventually purchase one. I feel it's well worth it & in this age of uncertainty, it increases my sense of security against hard times. This coin will be well worth it's weight in gold when the U.S. dollar collapses. Pre 1933 gold coins are a better buy than American eagles in more ways than one & everyone should own as many of them as possible. You can't go wrong with gold.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design
  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Easy to Sell
  • Recognized Brand
