APMEX uses a special machine to ensure the products you receive are completely sealed once they are removed directly from the mint boxes. The mint tubes are placed on a conveyor leading into the machine and the sealing process seals both ends of each tube with tamper-evident packaging. If this tube has been opened in any way, you will know. After the process is completed, the tube is removed from the machine and then checked to ensure the quality of the packaging meets our exacting standards. You now have a finished tube of MintDirect® 2018 Austria 1 oz Gold Philharmonic coins.

Once checked for quality, the MintDirect® tubes are stored back in the vault until they are ordered by our customers. By using this process, APMEX can guarantee the coins you receive are in exactly the same condition and packaging as they were when they left the Austrian Mint.

The History of 1 oz Gold Philharmonic Coins

Austrian Gold Philharmonic coins are named in honor of the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra. The orchestra was founded in 1842 and is counted among the finest in the world. The Vienna Philharmonic is based at the famous Musikverein in Vienna, Austria. Performers are selected from the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera in an arduous application process. Each musician must demonstrate proficiency at their instrument for at least three years, performing for the opera and ballet. After this period, the musician may formally request an application for a seat in the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra. It is this world-class orchestra that inspires the artwork on both the obverse and reverse of these Austrian Gold coins. Since its launch in 1989, the Austria Gold Philharmonic has become one of the best-selling bullion coins in the world. The Gold Philharmonic was originally struck in 1 oz and 1/4 oz sizes, but more fractionals have been available in 1/10 oz since 1991, 1/2 oz since 1994 and 1/25 oz since 2014.
