The history of Swiss Gold Helvetias

Swiss Gold Helvetias were minted at the Swiss National Mint in Bern from 1897 until 1936, with authorized restrikes following in 1947 and 1949. The obverse of these Swiss Gold coins depicts Helvetia, the female personification of Switzerland in the same way Lady Liberty is associated with the United States. This coin, sometimes referred to as a “Swiss Miss,” ceased being produced in 1936 due to the Great Depression. In modern times, these world coins have become more valuable for their Gold content than for their actual face value as legal tender.

Why invest in Swiss Gold Helvetias?

The highly popular Swiss Gold Helvetia makes investing easier due to the Gold coin’s lower premium over the spot price of Gold. The fractional Swiss Gold coin is an ideal choice for investors with limited budgets wanting to own affordable Gold coins. Many investors choose fractional Gold coins such as Swiss Gold Helvetias and Gold French Roosters to supplement their portfolio of larger Gold coins because smaller Gold coins are easier to use for bartering. These world coins are also appealing to investors because they are legal tender coins guaranteed for weight and purity by the Swiss government.

Collect Swiss Gold Helvetias featuring the artwork of Fritz Landry.

Swiss Gold Helvetias are prized among collectors for their beautiful design created by Swiss artist Fritz Landry. Landry’s skill for sculpting and engraving can be seen in the Swiss Gold coins, and it seems likely that growing up in a family of watch-case engravers contributed to his artistic sense. The design of these Gold coins is also influenced by one of his instructors, acclaimed medalist Antoine Bovy. Low premium gold in great condition

By  Shara Vabdas

from USA

5.0

Coin I received was in excellent condition. There are some barely perceptible and very small scratches on Helvetica's cheek, but they are almost not noticeable and the coin clearly qualifies as AU condition. For the gold content, it's difficult to find a better premium over spot price.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design

I have bought from APMEX a few times, it has always has been a great experience.. But the Swiss 20 Francs I received is an awesome 1914 coin and is unblemished and clearly grades Unc., when posted as 'RANDOM AU' , to make it better 1914 was a low mintage year. I couldn't have been happier and I usually don't do these kind of comments.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design
  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Easy to Sell

Good Transaction

This was my second order with APMEX consisting of a purchase of Swiss 20 Franc coins. Though purchased for their bullion value, I was pleased to see the condition was BU for all of the coins. APMEX advertised AU; under promised and over delivered. Delivery time was 2 weeks and 1 day for a payment by check...not bad, but less than perfect. I did call their customer service once with a question; I found them helpful, polite and knowledgeable.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)

Condition less than desirable.

Unfortunately, the coin I received has a rectangular scuff mark running diagonally across the reverse side. It almost looks as though something was clamped down on the coin. In bright light it appears as a discoloration. I'm not sure if this is typical of a coin with an AU designation, but I didn't expect something so noticeable on the coin. All other coins I've purchased from APMEX have been great looking. I checked with Live Chat support and they said that they don't cover shipping for exchanges, so I didn't bother pursuing an exchange as it would've increased the cost of the coin to an undesirable level.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design

Cons

  • Poor Condition

Buy Swiss Gold Helvetias without worrying about the exchange rate.

Whether you collect Swiss Gold Helvetias, or purchase them as an investment, prices for these Gold coins are based on the spot price of Gold in U.S. dollars. Though you might see Swiss Gold coins being sold in other currencies, the price is always converted from U.S. dollars. Using the U.S. dollar price for a troy ounce of Gold as the standard around the world means that you don’t have to worry about exchange rates when buying these Gold coins. Even if the world coins you are buying are sold by the gram or kilo, the prices are still converted from the troy ounce price in U.S. dollars.
