Dirty and Scratched

$1 US gold coin. This was the first disappointment I have experienced with the coins I have purchased from APMEX. It was advertised as AU, but it had grime on the reverse and a major scratch on the obverse.

Pros

  • Attractive Design

Cons

  • Poor Condition

Not AU, maybe XF

I wanted an AU type coin. I did not get that. The raw coin is XF at best.

Pros

  • Attractive Design

Cons

  • Unattractive Design
  • Common (higher mintage)
  • Poor Condition

Bought two, very happy with one, slightly disappointed two other

I purchased two of these. Both coins looked great, one was a fairly key date. Since both looked high AU or low MS I sent both to PCGS. One came back AU55 which I was pleased with, other came back as 'Cleaned'... I still give 4 stars because the 1st coin was solid (reason I went back for a second), and also because the value difference between a cleaned AU and normal AU is minor for this particular coin.

Pros

  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Easy to Sell

Cons

  • Poor Condition

Great buy!

I was definitely surprised getting a graded coin! I was expecting something lose, but received a graded slab! APMEX continues to impress!

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Easy to Sell
  • Mint Condition

Beautiful Pre Civil War Gold Coin

I always wanted a type I U.S. gold dollar because it is a real piece of history. The one dollar gold coins only had a short run so there weren't too many produced. The 1852 coin came on an AU graded PCGS slab which was a nice surprise. I was only expecting a loose coin. Nice coin, good price and fast delivery as always from APMEX.

Pros

  • Recognized Brand
  • Attractive Design
  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Piece Of History

The coin is a interesting part of American history and has a low mintage. APMEX went above when it came to the quality of this purchase.

Pros

  • Mint Condition
  • Attractive Design
  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Value (low premium over spot)
