These 1921 Morgan Dollars are of mixed mint marks of P, D or S or may all be of the same mint determined by stock on hand.

The Morgan Dollar holds a special place in U.S. coinage as it was the first coin to feature Lady Liberty with an American look, rather than the traditional Greek style. Her cap is adorned with wheat and cotton as a tribute to America's agricultural history.

The image of the eagle was also updated for the Morgan Dollar, showing a proportionally correct eagle with beautifully designed feathers. He carries an olive branch, showing America's desire for peace, and is perched atop a bundle of arrows, signifying America's readiness to defend her borders against attack.

The Morgan Dollar flooded the markets from 1878-1904. Nearly two decades after production halted, the Morgan Dollar was seen again for one year only, in 1921, due to a renewed desire for this iconic, beautiful design.

A little dirty, but definitely AU.

I add a couple Peaces and Morgans to most of my metals orders, and this time I added a 1921 instead of the 1878-1904s. It is definitely the letter definition of AU - no disfiguring dings, perfect detail, overall OK luster - but has a fair amount of black "ick" discoloration overall. All of the pre-'21 Morgans I've gotten are practically BU, so I was hoping the '21 would be a prettier coin. For the price, I still didn't go wrong. Better luck from the grab bag next time!

  • Attractive Design
  • Recognized Brand
  • Easy to Sell
  • Value (low premium over spot)

Roll of the dice

I've ordered about 6 of the 1921 AU Morgan Dollars. 3 of them were definitely not AU, more like VG. Had lots of dings, scratches and nicks. Disappointed.

Not AU Condition - But Shiny!

By  Mark

"A circulated coin graded AU has sharp legends and devices show only a trace of wear on the highest points. There must be at least half of the mint luster still present." I hesitated to buy 20 AU condition Morgan Dollars. But APMEX has a good reputation so I gave it a shot. 4 out of the 20 Morgans I received were no where near AU condition. But they were shiny! They had enough wear to make them VG-F even to amateur eyes. Shiny does not equal AU. I had hoped professional numismatic graders would make up these rolls. I was wrong. I am attempting to return the coins.

Cons

This is the second time I have been disappointed with my silver dollar purchases. I ordered 1921 Morgan Silver Dollars. About 7 of the 40 I received were too worn to fall into the almost uncirculated category, one had varnish on it. Other orders I received were disappointing as well. None of the 1921 Morgan’s had any mint marks on them. I thought spending more money on better coins would produce better results. It didn't work. Customer Service was great.

As I have experienced before, the quality of coins I received here was varied - some great, some not so. I stopped buying BU Morgans from APMEX because some of them were coming very dark and didn't reflect the photo as stated, not worth the premium. I have to say I feel the same so far about the AU Morgans I received - some were duller and darker than pictured above. Silver is silver of course, and the amount contained is the same, but I feel that I have to be careful so far ordering older coins from APMEX - making a note in the special requests area on the ordering form about quality may help when they choose your coins. Otherwise, I have had EXCELLENT service and quality from APMEX (on new items) and will continue to use them.

Ampex is most trustworthy. It is as they say, and even better. I was extremely pleased with the coin quality and service. I highly recommmend purchasing from Ampex. M.T, Illinois.

A superb example of silver dollars. I received my order quickly and the coins look just as the picture presents. This is a great way to purchase silver by means of real American dollars as exemplified by the Constitution of the United States of America. They also make a great "clinking" sound.
