These 1921 Morgan Dollars are of mixed mint marks of P, D or S or may all be of the same mint determined by stock on hand.

The Morgan Dollar holds a special place in U.S. coinage as it was the first coin to feature Lady Liberty with an American look, rather than the traditional Greek style. Her cap is adorned with wheat and cotton as a tribute to America's agricultural history.

The image of the eagle was also updated for the Morgan Dollar, showing a proportionally correct eagle with beautifully designed feathers. He carries an olive branch, showing America's desire for peace, and is perched atop a bundle of arrows, signifying America's readiness to defend her borders against attack.

The Morgan Dollar flooded the markets from 1878-1904. Nearly two decades after production halted, the Morgan Dollar was seen again for one year only, in 1921, due to a renewed desire for this iconic, beautiful design.

Of the three I purchased, I would say one was AU (and pretty), one was BU (fair)and one was circulated. Only the AU had nice luster. It was ok for the money I guess.

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Easy to Sell
  • Recognized Brand

I add a couple Peaces and Morgans to most of my metals orders, and this time I added a 1921 instead of the 1878-1904s. It is definitely the letter definition of AU - no disfiguring dings, perfect detail, overall OK luster - but has a fair amount of black "ick" discoloration overall. All of the pre-'21 Morgans I've gotten are practically BU, so I was hoping the '21 would be a prettier coin. For the price, I still didn't go wrong. Better luck from the grab bag next time!

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Recognized Brand
  • Easy to Sell

Roll of the dice

I've ordered about 6 of the 1921 AU Morgan Dollars. 3 of them were definitely not AU, more like VG. Had lots of dings, scratches and nicks. Disappointed.

Not AU Condition - But Shiny!

By  Mark

from Philalelphia

2.0

"A circulated coin graded AU has sharp legends and devices show only a trace of wear on the highest points. There must be at least half of the mint luster still present." I hesitated to buy 20 AU condition Morgan Dollars. But APMEX has a good reputation so I gave it a shot. 4 out of the 20 Morgans I received were no where near AU condition. But they were shiny! They had enough wear to make them VG-F even to amateur eyes. Shiny does not equal AU. I had hoped professional numismatic graders would make up these rolls. I was wrong. I am attempting to return the coins.

Cons

  • Poor Condition
