These Dutch made copper coins were intended for use by the Dutch East India Company (VOC), and were used all over the world, including the Dutch trading post in North America, New Amsterdam (later to become New York). This coin is not unlike those used by the Dutch to purchase Manhattan Island from Native Americans. Housed in a sturdy presentation case, this coin is a neat reminder of the varied history of our country. Called the original New York Penny, this is definately an interesting coin for the collector of Americana.
