The history of the Silver Buffalo round

The Silver Buffalo round is a contemporary round that pays tribute to the original Buffalo Nickel, or Indian Head Nickel, minted from 1913 to 1938. The original was not Silver bullion, but a copper-nickel five-cent piece designed by James Earle Fraser, a student of the legendary sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The 1 oz Silver round design was in use for 25 years on the Buffalo Nickel and disappeared until 2001, when the American Buffalo Commemorative coin was released. When you buy Precious Metals like Silver Buffalo rounds for your investment portfolio, you are also buying a piece of U.S. history.

Why invest in Silver Buffalo rounds?

This 1 oz Silver round delivers on an attractive design and an even more attractive low premium over spot price of Silver. This Silver Buffalo round is one ounce so it is easy to compare: See for yourself how close one of these beautiful rounds is to the current Silver spot price. This Silver bullion round allows you to collect a larger amount of Silver over time, adding individual Silver Buffalo rounds to every order or in multiples of 20 in plastic tubes or boxes which contain multiples of 50 when you like the current Silver spot price. When you buy Precious Metals with an eye toward investment, you do not always have to sacrifice beauty. This Silver round adapted from James Earle Fraser’s 1913 Buffalo Nickel proves it.

Buy Silver rounds when you want to balance your investment portfolio.

Rounds, like the Silver Buffalo round, are Precious Metals that are round like coins, but they do not have a face value and are not legal tender. A 1 oz Silver round would be purchased primarily to own Precious Metals and hold physical Silver as an investment. When you buy Precious Metals in the form of Silver coins, you are buying a Precious Metal produced by private mints. Unlike Silver bullion rounds, Silver coins have a face and legal tender status and are produced by government mints. Modern Silver coins like Silver bullion rounds are often produced for investment purposes as well.

There are minor dings around the edge of the coin and they don't say "liberty" on them where they should but still a nice coin.

  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Easy to Sell

Cons

  • Generic Brand

The art on this round is so American, so traditional. It makes the easily recognized Indian head and buffalo simple to use in barter. It also makes a wonderful gift. And the quality of the round is excellent. Sometimes this round goes on sale and then it's a real bargain to purchase and own!

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Easy to Sell
  • Mint Condition

Smears and smudges

By  PM Lover

from TX

3.0

The saying you get what you pay for certainly applies here, I have bought around 10 ? Rounds and 4 of them have spotting , or marks on the face of the Indian. I guess as long as it's 999 , and the price that I got them for, I am ok with keeping them.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)

Cons

  • Unattractive Design
  • Common (higher mintage)
  • Poor Condition

Not the quality that APNEX usually has!

By  Job

I was drawn to this round because of the outstanding support and quality merchandise that I have received from APMEX in the past. With that said I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with the quality of these rounds. I only ordered two and both had "pox marks" on the face of the Indian alot of corrosion on the coins. Overall its not enough for me to stop doing business with AMPEX , but I have to say I was a bit disappointed.

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Easy to Sell
  • Recognized Brand

Cons

  • Poor Condition

The lowest premium you will find on Silver.

Not much to say here except that these have probably the Lowest premium you will find for an ounce of silver. Iconic design and well stamped. All of the ones I have purchased are in excellent condition. These are the ideal choice for investing in Silver at an exceptional premium over spot.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design
  • Mint Condition

Invest in Silver bullion and other Precious Metals that are always being traded around the globe.

When investors buy Precious Metals, they are usually very aware of the Silver spot price, which is the current unfabricated price of Silver in real time. Unlike stocks, Silver bullion and coins don’t have a daily closing price. Silver, like that in the Silver Buffalo round, is traded 24/7 as part of commodity markets around the world, the most important gauge for Silver prices today being the New York Commodity Exchange (COMEX). When you buy a 1 oz Silver round, you pay a premium price that is based on the spot price of Silver (the result of supply and demand around the world) plus markups for fabrication, distribution, minor dealers’ fees and any numismatic collector value.
