The history of Gold American Eagle coins

The Gold American Eagle is made by the U.S. Mint, which was created by The Coinage Act of 1792, one of the first institutions of the new republic. Everything from Gold Eagle coins to zinc pennies are made today, but the U.S. Mint’s first production was 11,178 copper cents in 1793. The first U.S. Mint Gold coins were issued in 1795, authorized by The Coinage Act and known as “Eagles.” Modern Gold coins were authorized by the Gold Bullion Act of 1985 and are known as “American Eagles.”

Why invest in uncirculated Gold Eagle coins?

Brilliant uncirculated Gold American Eagle coins are in the top tier of the grading scale created by Dr. William Sheldon in 1949. Grading of Gold Eagle coins is a means of quantifying a coin’s state of preservation, which affects value. U.S. Mint Gold coins that have been in circulation rate lower on the scale. Brilliant uncirculated Gold coins like these 1990 Gold Eagles have never been in circulation, and therefore, these bullion coins retain all of their natural luster and sharp lines in their designs.

You can trust Gold Eagle coins because the bullion coins come from the U.S. Mint.

The Gold American Eagle is a legal tender coin from the U.S. Mint, meaning it comes with important assurances. Gold Eagle coins have their weight and purity stamped on them as well as a denomination of $50 that marks them as U.S. currency. U.S. Mint Gold coins, as such, are guaranteed by the U.S. government to be the weight and purity they say they are. Gold coins are easier to buy and sell because of these assurances.
