LYDIA under PERSIAN RULE: Circa 480 - 330 BC. Silver Siglos. (13-18mm 5.5g,).
Obverse: Bearded archer (the Great King) running/kneeling, holding bow and spear.
Reverse: Oblong incuse punch.
Coinage is thought to have started in Lydia or Ionia (present day western Turkey) in the seventh century BC. In 546 BC Lydia was conqured by the Persians and silver siglos of this type were struck from about 500 BC till the Persian Empire fell to Alexander the Great. This is a nice coin of this type.
