Rare experimental issue!
Raising the benchmark for purity among Gold bullion coins, the Royal Canadian Mint introduced to the public the first government-issued .99999-fine pure Gold coin in 2007. This special series, which is minted in addition to the normal .9999-fine Gold Maple Leafs, will undergo a changed reverse design each year.
Unknown to many collectors is that the Royal Canadian Mint originally struck 600, yet after melting 200, released only 400 experimental issue .99999-fine $50 Gold Maple Leaf coins to the public.
The processes that bring us the finest Gold coin in the world were originally employed in the production of this impressive experimental issue. Additionally, what's interesting about this is that the experimental issue bears the original Maple Leaf reverse design. This coin is graded MS-64 by PCGS.
