BYZANTINE Gold Solidus!

This coin was struck during the reign of Justinian I (527 - 565 AD), commonly known as Justin the Great. It was during his reign that the empire reached its greatest extent in area stretching from Spain to Asia Minor and from northern France to southern Egypt. Almost 10% of the world's population lived within the empire at this time.
The Solidus was the workhorse coin for the Byzantines as it circulated all throughout the empire and beyond its borders as well. This coin is approximately 20mm by 4.2g. in size.

Reverse: An angel holding a P-cross. VICTORIA AVGGG CONOB in ex. Constantinople mint.
