Victor Emmanuel II, born Vittorio Emanuele Maria Alberto Eugenio Ferdinando Tommaso, was the first king of a united Italy since the 6th century! He ruled from 1861 until his death in 1878. He is known to Italians as "Padre della Patria" (Father of the Fatherland). His profile appears on the obverse of these coins, each containing .7234 oz Silver. This coin features one of the most interesting moustaches to appear on a coin. The lesser coat of arms of the House of Savoy appear on the reverse. Listed in Krause as KM#8.3.
