This is a Tabaristan Silver Hemi Drachm (24mm, 1.9g). Coins like this were used for trade and in commerce along the Silk Road that linked China and southeast Asia with the Middle East and Europe. The Silk Road was a series of trade routes that carried goods and ideas from eastern Asia to the subcontinent of India, eastern Africa, and southeastern Europe.
