The history of the 1/10 oz Platinum American Eagle coin

1/10 oz Platinum American Eagle coins are made of a Precious Metal that has been around since at least 1200 B.C. as the metal was discovered in Egyptian tombs. The same metal for Platinum coins, though, would not come to Europe’s attention until the 1500s, when some even viewed Platinum as an impurity in Gold. The first U.S. Mint coin was not even produced until 1997. This delay in minting Platinum coins, though, has no relationship to the value today. Often today, the Platinum price is higher than the Gold price thanks to Platinum’s many uses, including investment bullion and industrial products like use in catalytic converters for cars.

Why invest in 1/10 oz Platinum American Eagle coins?

Buying Precious Metals in this small weight makes for an economical entry point for many investors. The 1/10 oz Platinum American Eagle has a legal tender value of $10, but its price has always been based on the Platinum price per ounce. A Platinum coin with a legal tender value is guaranteed by its issuing government for weight, quality and purity so you can be sure when you buy Platinum you are getting what you pay for. The U.S. Mint stopped making the 1/10 oz Platinum American Eagle in 2008 but you can still get these Platinum coins from APMEX.

With the 1/10 oz Platinum American Eagle, buying Precious Metals is affordable.

The 1/10 oz Platinum American Eagle coin is an ideal candidate for a Precious Metals IRA. Before buying this bullion Platinum coin, you will first need to set up a custodian, and APMEX can help you find a qualified one. Then buy Platinum and other Precious Metals that qualify for an IRA, and they will be shipped directly to the custodian. As the 1/10 oz Platinum American Eagle coins and other Precious Metals gain value, you will not pay taxes on any profits as long as the Precious Metals remain in the IRA. Once you decide to remove these Precious Metals, you will want to talk with your tax adviser about any taxes you may owe.

I chose the platinum american eagle because they're the only bullion coin on the market (to my knowledge) that offers platinum coins in fractional sizes. The added surprise to buying a random year is that you'll never know what year you'll get.

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Mint Condition

A Favorite Part of My Holdings

I manage my precious metal holdings as I would manage a game of chess with a formidable opponent. You must have a clear and unambiguous strategy towards your portfolio and stick to it. These tenth ounce, and the fourth ounce platinum eagles, I recently purchased provide conveniently sized holdings for bartering should that become necessary in the future.

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Easy to Sell
  • Recognized Brand

Cons

  • Common (higher mintage)

One of the best US Bullion coins to own!

This coin gives budget stackers or collectors the opportunity to own platinum at a low price. I love U.S. Platinum Eagles (I hope to obtain an full 1oz someday), and I feel being on a budget this is one coin I can stack. My only con with it is that APMEX charges a high premium for platinum coins including this 1/10 oz coin. Seeing how as of writing this review today the price of Gold is more than Platinum. So it would be nice to see the price reflect that. Other than that, I do hope to obtain at least two more of these coins this year. A+

Invest in Platinum coins with peace of mind when you get legal tender coins made by the U.S. Mint.

The price of the 1/10 oz Platinum American Eagle depends on the spot price of Platinum, which can be affected by market speculations, world events and industrial demand. Buying legal tender Platinum coins without collectability value is a popular way to buy Platinum as an investment, minimizing the premium price over spot price while getting a guaranteed fineness and weight. The U.S. Mint, the Royal Canadian Mint and the Australian mint all make legal-tender Platinum coins that interest investors worldwide. Buying Precious Metals gives you an investment avenue that is not as tied to the gyrations of stocks, bonds or property value.
