The Forgotten Dollar

By  John

I am trying to own a good example of coin types in America and bought this one. I am mid-40's in age and grew up with these and remember as a kid playing with the large coins. So nostalgic feelings aside, this is an awesome example of the last of the large dollar coins and is in definite BU condition. Excellent price for a memory and great example of end of an era in dollar coins.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design
  • Mint Condition

Most Excellent Ikes

I ordered 10 of these Silver Ikes. They were delivered in a timely and secure manner. All but one are in better condition than I expected. The last one almost looks like some substance got onto the coin. All 10 received were Bicentennials! I love Bicentennial Coinage, how did they know? Just one with the Apollo Reverse would have been cool, but like I said... love Bicentennials.

Pros

  • Attractive Design

Cons

  • Common (higher mintage)

Love them, but APMEX sell near Spot

I had leftover aucation Bucks to spend so I used them to obtain 1 of these. I don't usually buy this coin from APEX b/c they charge way too high of a premium for a 40% Silver common coin. My local shops sell them right at Spot.

Pros

  • Recognized Brand
  • Easy to Sell
  • Mint Condition

Cons

  • Common (higher mintage)
  • Priced Too High

I bought this coin because I needed a silver Eisenhower. The coin is great but it had a few old oxidized abrasions and a some gouges and deep scratches. Obviously this coin was meant to be in another low grade bin.

  • Collectible (lower mintage)

Cons

  • A Few Nicksgouges And Ab

This is a great buy because it is 40% silver and 60% copper both are moving up in price as. During WWII's Manhattan Project copper was impossible to find and caused the price to go through the roof and the government had to borrow several tons of silver to replace copper from the U.S. Treasury. Another great thing about this coin is that it has not been touched since the time it was struck and put in plastic so you really do get a well preserved piece of history.
