The history of Canadian Silver bars

The Canadian 100 oz Silver bar was made possible by the Royal Canadian Mint’s new Silver refinery, which opened in 2006. Silver bars are made with state-of-the-art machines that are efficient, compact and controlled almost entirely by computer so that there is zero waste. The addition of the Royal Canadian Mint Silver refinery allows the mint to handle a wide range of Silver sources, from unrefined Silver ore to recycled Silver products such as cutlery and vintage Silver coins. The Silver bullion bars are available to clients quicker because the mint no longer needs to rely on third parties.

Why invest in Royal Canadian Mint Silver?

A 100 oz Silver bar from the Royal Canadian Mint can be trusted to meet high standards and is guaranteed by the Canadian government for its weight and quality. To ensure its Silver bars meet the highest standards, the mint has an analytical lab that is among the world’s best, with independent verification of its fire assay by the American Society for Testing and Materials. The Royal Canadian Mint Silver refinery is an accredited ISO 9001 facility, an international standard for quality management systems. Every step of the Silver bullion creating process is marked by world-standard security protocols.

The refining of a 100 oz Silver bar at the Royal Canadian Mint utilizes the best, most-exacting equipment and processes.

From raw material to a 100 oz Silver bar takes a few steps at the state-of-the-art Royal Canadian Mint refinery. Before Silver bars are formed, a sample of the metal is melted and analyzed to determine its purity. The Royal Canadian Mint Silver refinery cools the melted Silver and puts it in a special nitrate-based solution that produces Gold and Copper residual byproducts. The Silver bullion bars are formed from the resulting Silver flakes using high speed Silver electrolysis, creating products that are 0.9999 fine Silver.

2016 Silver Eagles purchased

By  Gregory

5.0

I recently bought 2016 SIlver eagles monster box. I am very pleased with my purchase from Apmex. Customer service was great! I recieved my purchase via USPS with no issues. Merchandise came in perfect condition. I was nervous at first purchase because of such a high purchase through mail but now I feel more comfortable. I am currently planning my second purchase with Apmex.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Easy to Sell
  • Mint Condition
  • Recognized Brand

I have purchased many items from APMEX, including a few RCM 100 oz. bars. I like the fact that the bars are issued from a government mint & are .9999 pure. The bar is more economical than coins and yet it is also still manageable to carry. More generally, APMEX provides wonderful service too!

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design
  • Mint Condition
  • Recognized Brand

APMEX Never Disappoints with the 100oz RCM

I received three (3) RCM 100oz bars from APMEX and all are beautiful. I stated that I wanted new/like new bars and they honored the request. The payment process was easy and the shipping was easy. I would strongly recommend APMEX and the 100oz RCM bars to anyone.

I suppose I shouldn't complain about a .9999 bar with such a small premium, but boy did I get a couple of shoddy specimens. Both are heavily worn, one to the point to where you can't make out the serial number and only just barely can you make out the mint. These will be going in the back corner of my collection...

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Recognized Brand

Cons

  • Poor Condition

Small Slab at a good price

- Of two bars, one came with a 'dent' that looks like another bar was dropped right into the face of it. Also has some large pitting on the rear. -The other bar looks nice, apart from a small dent the size of a pencil eraser, the luster is greater than pictured in the image on the website. - Using a known good scale: Big dent bar weighed in at 99.986 troy oz ( 109.7oz ) Small dent bar weighed in at 99.986 troy oz ( 109.7oz )

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Recognized Brand

Cons

  • Poor Condition

I need to better heed reviews

By  Mike the Knight

I read the reviews and saw some negativity concerning these bars. I rolled the dice anyway and they came up snake eyes. The bar was tarnished, had a handprint tarnished into the front surface. Couple of deep scratches and a few dents that were sizable. I have never had a problem with anything from APMEX previously. They have been my exclusive go to company because some of their competitors don't deliver timely and pass off damaged items. I have to say though that this time I am disappointed. This bar would qualify as scruffy at best. It has a 2013 date and obviously has been banged around a bit.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Recognized Brand

Cons

  • Poor Condition

Very Nice Bar

Bought this bar as silver prices continue to drop. Fast delivery is a plus. Was concerned about what the condition of the bar was going to be in after reading some of the reviews. It arrived though in mint condition, and you can't beat 999.9 purity. No complaints here.

Pros

  • Recognized Brand
  • Mint Condition
  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Easy to Sell
  • Attractive Design

Very Dissatisfied with Transaction

By  Greg

from Montgomery AL

1.0

I expected new bars from the RCM mint. My bars appear to be recirculated since they are stamped 3 years old and slightly tarnished and scuffed/dented. I wouldn't have purchased these RCM bars if I knew they may be secondary market bars delivered by RCM to APMEX. In my order I specifically stated "request new bars in sealed plastic." This request was not honored by APMEX. I'm not sure why these bars are not being sold as "secondary market" bars. I spoke to 2 APMEX reps on how to resolve my dissatisfaction. One is trying to help; the other rep was very unhelpful. APMEX implied that RCM gets recycled bars and sends them to APMEX. I was told by the rep that APMEX does not guarantee the date or condition of these RCM bars. Since it didn't say this under the bar's description I assumed they were new, mint direct bars. I'm not comfortable not knowing the chain of custody of these bars for 3 years before they were resold to RCM then to APMEX. If you value chain of custody, please demand "mint direct" in writing from APMEX before purchasing.

Cons

  • Not New Bars From Mint
  • Poor Apmex Description
