Product Description

Proposed design By Charles E. Barber. The coin is .999 fine gold weighing 1 oz. The obverse depicts a slightly smaller portrait of a capped bust of Liberty facing left. The inscription LIBERTY is on her headress as a normal $20 Double Eagle. 13 stars are arranged around the border - seven left, six right. The reverse features a design taken from a half dollar pattern put forth by Barber in 1891.
An interesting design that was not up to the beauty of the design adopted the following year by Augustus St. Gaudens. This privately issued piece was struck in 2009, and encapsulated as a Gem Proof Ultra Cameo by NGC. It was struck at the New York Mint. This gold coin comes housed in a handsome WOODEN BOX AND COA!!
