This coin commemorates the 400th anniversary of the settlement of Jamestown, Va. Jamestown was also honored on the 2000 Virginia statehood quarter dollar. It was the first permanent English settlement in America. On the obverse is Capt. John Smith shown with an American Indian man and woman. On the reverse are three sailing ships, deja vu from the 2000 statehood quarter, but arranged differently.
