Product Description

Mintage of only 10,000 coins!
The reverse of this Silver coin displays a meticulously detailed and finely engraved depiction of a D-10 4-6-0 locomotive steaming out of the railway station. The artistry is so intricate that the engine number 999 can be clearly distinguished on the front of the locomotive!

The obverse features a profile of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of England as designed by Susanna Blunt. This Silver coin comes to you in the original box of issue with a numbered certificate of authenticity that tells the tale of the history of trains in Canada.

For almost sixty years, freight service across Canada relied heavily on Canadian Pacific’s powerful D-10 4-6-0 locomotive. A total of 502 of these steam-powered workhorses were built between 1907 and 1913 to become the cornerstones of every freight terminal from Nova Scotia to British Columbia.

For three decades, more than one in seven locomotives was a D-10, until they were gradually retired from revenue service beginning in 1938. Still, these aging veterans were not finally done until the last stopped hauling in 1960. This would make a great gift for train enthusiasts!
