It has a face value of 1,000 Communaute Financiere Africaine francs.
This coin is dedicated to the brush-footed butterfly or Charaxes fournierae, which is a member of the Nymphalidae family. The species Charaxes was described for the first time by the lepidopterist Ferdinand Ochsenheimer and includes more than 180 types. A common characteristic connects the members of this family: They only possess two functional leg pairs. The two legs in the front are a reduced pair of forelegs which only serve as cleaning paws, which is why the Nymphalidae are also called brush-footed butterflies. They are found in tropical regions in central Africa.
