Product Description

Mintage of only 5,000!
This is the final release of the Famous Battles in Australian History five coin series.
The Long Tan coin features an Australian soldier wearing a Vietnam War jungle kit. The background contains a printed historical image of soldiers at Long Tan and the inscription LONG TAN 1966, design by Wade Robinson.

The Ian Rank-Broadley likeness of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination are shown on the obverse. Each coin comes in a box with certificate of authenticity, packed in an illustrated shipper.

One of the heaviest actions of the Vietnam War occurred between the Australian Army and Viet Cong forces on August 18, 1966. The engagement occurred when part of the 1st Australian Task Force (D Company) encountered the Viet Cong and local forces in a rubber plantation, near the village of Long Tan.

Long Tan was a decisive Australian victory and is often cited as an example of the importance of combining infantry, artillery, armor and military aviation in a coordinated attack.
