The third coin in The Mint of Poland "Oddities of Nature" is the .925 Silver square coin that features the Platypus. When the first scientists examined a platypus they believed they were victims of a hoax. The animal is best described as a hodgepodge of more familiar animals: the duck (bill and webbed feet), beaver (tail), and otter (body and fur). In the central part of the coin on the reverse is the image of the Platypus. In the background is an image of a waterside with plants growing on it and an image of a fern leaf hanging down. At the bottom, along the rim - an inscription: Ornithorhynchus anatinus (Latin name of Platypus). On the obverse is an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. To the left is the country of issue. Also on the obverse are the face value and a background of images of plants and animal tracks. Each coin comes encapsulated and with a Certificate of Authenticity from the Mint of Poland.
