Historic Russian Silver Coins!
These Silver kopeks of Russia and the Soviet Union demonstrate another historical instance of Gresham's Law (where bad money drives out good).
The economic depression of the 1930s affected the Soviet Union no less than the rest of the world. During this time the Russian people did what people had always done during hard times; they hoarded coins that contained Silver or Gold.
Even though the Soviet government stopped striking Silver coins in the late 1920s, dictator Joseph Stalin blamed the Finance Ministry, and in his typical fashion, had many people in the Finance Ministry and the Central Bank killed.
This set (known as Stalin's Death Sentence Coins) contains 2 Silver coins of Czarist Russia, and 2 Silver Soviet issued coins. There is a 10 and 15 Kopek dated prior to 1917, and a 15 and 20 Kopek dated from 1924 through 1930 (dates of our choice). The Silver contents are as follows: 10 Kopek, 0.0289; 15 Kopek, 0.0434; 20 Kopek, 0.0579 for a total actual Silver weight for the set of 0.1736 oz.
Coins are in Extra Fine to Almost Uncirculated condition, are encapsulated and come in a handsome wood display case with certificate of authenticity and a brief history of the coins. As the last Silver coins issued by Russia/Soviet Union for circulation, this set will make a great gift for any collector.
