Byzantine Gold Solidus Emperor Heraclius XF NGC (613-641 AD)
This Gold coin dates from the reign of the Byzantine Emperor Heraclius (610-641 AD). Heraclius was one of the greatest Byzantine imperators and founder of the Heraclian dynasty. The obverse shows facing busts of Heraclius (left) and Heraclius Constantine (right), with whom he reigned as co-emperor from 613-641 AD.
This legend surrounds the likenesses of the two rulers: dd NN HERACLIYS ET HERA CONST PP AV. The reverse features a cross potent atop three steps. Two phrases are also shown on the reverse: "CONOB" which is an abbreviation of the Greek for "Byzantine coinage," and "VICTORIA AVGY." Officinae E.
