The Perth Mint 2011 Gold Nugget 1 oz Proof Coin features the "Welcome Stranger" nugget, believed to be the largest Gold nugget ever found. It was discovered in 1869 in Moliagul, Victoria near the root of a tree, only two inches beneath the surface. The nugget weighed 2,284 ounces.
A limited mintage of 1,500 one oz Gold proof coins was released to mark the 25th anniversary of Australia's official Gold coin program.
