This Gold Zecchino (Ducat) was issued by the Republic of Venice between 1684 and 1688. In the 17th century Venice was still an important trading power whose influence spanned the entire Mediterranean area. Struck at the Venice mint, these trade coins contain .1122 oz actual Gold weight. The obverse features Christ standing, and the reverse shows the Doge (Marcantonio Giustinian) kneeling. This example is graded AU Details with Surface Hairlines by NGC. Listed in Krause as FM#1341.
